GED PROGRAM |
|
Getting started in the GED program is sometimes found to be the hardest step. Many people find it hard to commit to making that decision. Once you are committed, though, you will find that the Laurens County Lifelong Learning instructors use one-on-one and group instruction to help you succeed. Each person enrolling in the program is assessed to determine the level of instruction needed. You choose a class schedule that works for you, and then you’re on your way! Eligible students must be at least 17 years of age and not be currently enrolled in school or expelled from school. Enrollees are required to submit a small fee which covers as many classes you need to attend within one year. There is a minimal fee for textbooks, if you want your own. If you feel that fees are a problem, please don’t let that stop you from contacting our office to talk with the Adult Ed Director. Class schedules are flexible and are designed to accommodate those who cannot attend on a full-time basis. Students can choose from day or evening classes. Most classes are taught at the Higher Education Center, but other locations throughout the county are available, depending on enrollment. Participants are not requited to report on a daily basis, however, regular participation will better prepare you for your GED Exam. Maybe you’ve been out of school for awhile and aren’t quite ready for the GED program. By contacting our office, we can arrange for you to be tested to determine if you may need to enroll in the Pre-GED program. These classes will help you review the basics and prepare for the GED program. Adults who pass the GED exam receive a South Carolina High School Equivalency Diploma, which indicates the completion of the level of work necessary to graduate from high school. It is generally accepted by employers as well as 95% of two and four-year colleges. For specific dates, times, and locations of GED tests, contact the Laurens County Lifelong Learning office at 864-938-1524 or 984-5726.
